Airtel Uganda calls for national cyber resilience framework
Airtel Uganda has called for the establishment of a national cyber resilience framework, warning that stronger coordination is needed to protect the country’s critical infrastructure from a rising volume of cyberattacks.
Airtel Uganda IT Director Uwagboe Ehimwenman made the call, arguing that a formal framework would strengthen Uganda’s capacity to prevent, detect, respond to and recover from attacks targeting critical infrastructure and essential services.
The appeal comes amid a broader regional push for stronger cybersecurity coordination, with telecom operators and regulators across East Africa reporting a growing frequency of attacks on financial systems, telecom networks and public infrastructure.
Ehimwenman’s comments point to a gap between individual operators’ cybersecurity investments and the absence of a unified national response structure. A coordinated framework would allow public and private stakeholders to share threat intelligence and respond more effectively to incidents that cross sector lines, rather than each operator managing risk in isolation.
The call adds Airtel Uganda’s voice to a growing number of telecom and technology players across the region pressing governments to treat cybersecurity as core national infrastructure policy rather than a purely private-sector concern.
