MTN Uganda opens AI resource centre for teachers

MTN Uganda has opened a digital resource centre in Komamboga, Kampala, to help teachers bring technology and AI into classroom teaching, as part of wider efforts to expand digital learning and literacy in the country.

The MTN Teachers’ Resource Centre was set up through the MTN Uganda Foundation in partnership with Burn Radio Uganda. It provides online and offline educational materials to support lesson preparation, digital skills development and the use of AI tools in education.

The launch coincided with National Teachers’ Day and the graduation of 102 teachers who completed the International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL), a programme that builds their ability to use digital tools in teaching and learning.

Teachers at the centre can use digital resources and AI tools to help plan lessons, try new teaching methods and make learning materials more accessible. MTN Uganda said the initiative pairs these resources with practical digital skills training, because technology alone cannot improve learning outcomes if teachers don’t know how to use it.

The centre’s offline options are aimed at communities where internet access is limited, so users can work with digital materials without relying entirely on connectivity.

Beyond the classroom

The centre is also open to parents. It offers resources to help them understand the school curriculum and support their children’s learning at home.

MTN Uganda credited MTN Women at Work, Burn Radio Uganda, the Maendeleo Foundation and the Ministry of Education and Sports for their contributions to digital skills training and wider access to educational resources.

The launch comes as demand grows for digital literacy and AI skills in education, and for teachers who can use new technologies responsibly. Equal access to devices, reliable internet and training remains a critical factor in making sure all learners benefit.

Through the centre and the ICDL training programme, MTN Uganda said it aims to narrow the digital divide in education by widening access to learning materials and training teachers to use technology in the classroom.
