Airtel Uganda pays UGX 42.6 billion dividend to NSSF for 2025

Airtel Uganda has paid UGX 42.6 billion in dividends to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), following the telecom company’s financial performance for the year ended December 31, 2025. The payment adds to the returns NSSF has received from its investment in Airtel Uganda, with the pension fund earning UGX 82.3 billion in gross dividends from the telecom company over the past three years.
The latest payout comes as NSSF continues to expand its investment portfolio under its long-term Vision 2035 strategy. Airtel Uganda’s continued business growth has positioned the telecom operator as an investment contributing to the Fund’s shareholder value.
Speaking during the dividend handover, Airtel Uganda Managing Director and CEO Soumendra Sahu said the company’s growth has been supported by an expanding network, improved operational efficiency and its focus on customer service.
“We have grown the network footprint, improved operational efficiencies and continued to serve our customers better, the reason we exist. That growth also allows us to take connectivity further. Last week, Airtel Uganda became the first telecommunications company in Uganda to launch satellite-powered mobile connectivity through our partnership with Starlink, taking us another step closer to connecting Ugandans in places where traditional network infrastructure has historically been difficult to deploy.”
The satellite connectivity rollout comes as Airtel Uganda looks to extend mobile services beyond areas where conventional telecom infrastructure has been difficult or costly to establish.
Sahu also congratulated NSSF on announcing a 22.53 percent interest rate for the 2025/26 financial year. The rate will see UGX 5.44 trillion credited to NSSF members’ accounts and represents the highest interest rate declared by the Fund in its history.
For NSSF, the Airtel Uganda investment remains part of its broader strategy of generating sustainable returns for members over the long term. NSSF Managing Director Patrick Ayota said the telecom company’s performance continues to offer growth potential for the Fund.
“Airtel Uganda continues to present a long-term growth opportunity for the Fund, backed by consistent business performance and a strong commitment to creating shareholder value.”
The UGX 42.6 billion dividend therefore represents another return from an investment that has generated substantial income for NSSF in recent years.
Airtel Uganda said it will continue investing in its network and operations while focusing on sustainable business growth and creating value for its customers, shareholders and Ugandans whose retirement savings are invested through NSSF.
