Glovo Uganda expands rider safety programme with training and technology

Glovo Uganda has accelerated efforts to improve rider safety, combining in-person road safety training, technology-based monitoring tools, and insurance support as the number of delivery riders using its platform continues to grow.
The company highlighted the initiatives during a Rider Safety Event in Kampala, where riders received practical guidance on safer road use and participated in discussions with road safety and boda boda industry representatives.
The event brought together Michael Kamoga, Road Safety Officer at Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport; Ssenabulya Richard from the Kampala Boda Boda Association leadership; and Brendon Njoroge, Operations Manager at Glovo Uganda.
Brendon Njoroge, Operations Manager at Glovo Uganda, said rider safety remains a key priority for the company given the role riders play in connecting customers and businesses across the country.
“At Glovo, riders are essential to the company’s operations and play an important role in Uganda’s growing digital economy. Every day, riders navigate Kampala’s roads to connect customers and businesses, demonstrating commitment, resilience and hard work,” said Njoroge. “Road safety in Uganda must always remain a continuous priority, supported through practical education, awareness and tools that encourage safer riding behaviours.”
Glovo said its rider safety programme includes face-to-face safety training alongside tools integrated into its rider app. The company also provides insurance support and other initiatives intended to address riders’ broader welfare.
The app-based safety feature, introduced in May 2026, gives riders greater visibility into their riding behaviour and is designed to help them identify actions that could increase road-related risks.
Ssenabulya, who is also a rider, welcomed the participation of riders in the latest training and called for continued engagement between riders, the company and other stakeholders.
“As riders, we understand the importance of safety because we are on the road every day. What is valuable is having support that goes beyond simply telling riders to be safe. We welcome continued engagement between riders, Glovo and other stakeholders so that our welfare and needs always remain part of the conversation.” He said.
The company said its broader rider support initiatives also include insurance coverage and language and skills courses aimed at supporting riders’ personal and professional development.
Glovo plans to hold a third rider safety training cohort in December 2026 and said it will continue exploring additional road safety initiatives and engagement opportunities in 2027.
Ultimately, the initiatives form part of the company’s wider efforts to use training and technology to promote safer riding practices among its delivery riders in Uganda.
